Powers/Abilities: Jesse Custer possesses the Word of God, a supernatural ability that allows him to command anyone to do his bidding. His power is absolute, and no one can resist it. When Jesse uses the Word, his eyes turn bright red, and he speaks with a booming voice. However, his power does not work on those who are deaf or cannot understand the language he speaks. He is also a skilled fighter, proficient in hand-to-hand combat, and firearms.

Jesse Custer was born in Angelville, Louisiana, to John Custer, a preacher, and Christina L'Angelle, a member of the L'Angelle family. When Jesse was a child, his father was killed by the L'Angelle family, and his mother disappeared. Jesse was taken in by his grandmother, Marie L'Angelle, who raised him and trained him to be an enforcer for the family business.

Jesse eventually left Angelville and became a preacher in Annville, Texas. However, after his congregation was killed in an accident, he lost his faith and became a vigilante. It was during this time that he encountered Cassidy, a vampire, and Tulip O'Hare, his former girlfriend and partner in crime.

Jesse's life changed when he was possessed by Genesis, the offspring of an angel and a demon. The possession gave Jesse the Word of God, which allowed him to command anyone to do his bidding. Jesse set out on a mission to find God and hold him accountable for abandoning his creation.

Jesse's quest led him to the Grail, a secret organization dedicated to preserving the bloodline of Jesus Christ. Jesse became embroiled in a war between the Grail and their enemies, which included the Saint of Killers, an undead cowboy who could not be killed.

Jesse's journey took him to New York City, where he confronted God and learned the truth about his past. He also encountered Herr Starr, the leader of the Grail, who wanted Jesse to become the new messiah. Jesse refused and went into hiding with Tulip and Cassidy.

Later, Jesse returned to Angelville to confront his past and put an end to the L'Angelle family's hold over him. He succeeded in freeing himself from their influence, but at a great cost.
