Re: TV Series Trivia

This week’s quiz is on the connections between the 1990-1991 Flash series and the Arrowverse. Usually of course the questions connect with the modern era Flash series, but not all of them.
1. Who did John Wesley Shipp (1990s Flash) initially play in the modern Flash series?
2. In what season of the modern Flash series did a static image of the 1990s Flash appear (a promo image for the earlier show)?
3. In what Arrowverse series did the 1990s Flash first actually return in, beyond the above static image)?
4. The above return was part of which crossover?
5. A version of which character from the 1990s Flash series is the younger Trickster’s mom in the modern Flash series?
6. Who played both versions of the character from question 5?
7. Who played Tina McGee in both Flash series?
8. Who played the Trickster in the earlier Flash series as well as the older Trickster in the modern Flash series?
9. What is the strongest way in which Mirror Master from the 1990 Flash series connects to Arrow?
10. A version of Julio Mendez from the 1990s Flash series first appeared in which modern Flash story?
11. Who played Julio Mendez on both Flash series?
12. In which season of The Flash (modern series) did John Wesley Shipp’s first modern character meet Tina McGee?
13. What were Tony Bellows’ occupations on the earlier Flash series and the new series?
14. Why hasn’t Bellows’ partner Murphy appeared on the modern Flash series?
15. Aside from characters mentioned above, who else has John Wesley Shipp played on the modern Flash series?
16. Aside from playing the Trickster who’s the father of the younger Trickster, who else has the actor who played the Trickster in the 1990s series played on The Flash?
17. Which research facility has appeared on both Flash series?
18. Aside from characters already mentioned above, which villain has appeared on both Flash series?
19. Who did a show in the Arrowverse establish that the Flash from the 1990s series ended up marrying?
20. What was the first time that images from the 1990s Flash series were used in the modern Flash series in some fashion?

Re: TV Series Trivia

I'm sensing I should avoid Flash 1990 and Arrowverse as topics. Outside what people are familiar with sadly. The next quiz will cover a range of shows so hopefully more questions will be chipped away at. Answers to the above

Henry Allen

2. In what season of the modern Flash series did a static image of the 1990s Flash appear (a promo image for the earlier show)?

Supergirl, in a teaser that was repeated in Flash and Arrow.

4. The above return was part of which crossover?
Elseworlds

5. A version of which character from the 1990s Flash series is the younger Trickster’s mom in the modern Flash series?

Flashpoint

11. Who played Julio Mendez on both Flash series?

2

13. What were Tony Bellows’ occupations on the earlier Flash series and the new series?
Police officer and mayor respectively

14. Why hasn’t Bellows’ partner Murphy appeared on the modern Flash series?
Actor Biff Manard passed away prior to the first season airing, though he made have still been alive when early episodes were being shot.

15. Aside from characters mentioned above, who else has John Wesley Shipp played on the modern Flash series?
Since likely few people have watched the Arrowvese shows so far, I'll include spoiler space as it's meant to be a surprise:

Jay Garrick

16. Aside from playing the Trickster who’s the father of the younger Trickster, who else has the actor who played the Trickster in the 1990s series played on The Flash?
Trickster of Earth-3

17. Which research facility has appeared on both Flash series?
STAR Labs

18. Aside from characters already mentioned above, which villain has appeared on both Flash series?
Captain Cold

19. Who did a show in the Arrowverse establish that the Flash from the 1990s series ended up marrying?
Tina McGee

20. What was the first time that images from the 1990s Flash series were used in the modern Flash series in some fashion?

Re: TV Series Trivia

This week’s questions are TV show ties to movies. Usually the show and movie have an obvious strong connection but they don’t have to.

1. Aside from Kenny Baker (R2D2), which other major Star Wars movie actor who appears in the Star Wars Holiday Special isn’t credited?
2. Which movie suggested that the Brady Kids cartoon series was a magic mushroom induced hallucination?
3. The episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 where Joel Robinson left (though he did later return briefly) riffed which movie?
4. When characters from which movie encountered their TV counterpart did one of them mention getting good vibes off the latter?
5.  Which four characters appeared in both Batman: The Animated Series and Batman: Mask of the Phantasm?
6. Which villain from Batman (1960s series) was recast for Batman: The Movie?

12. After Captain America: The Winter Soldier came out, which organization from Agents of SHIELD was revealed to be part of Hydra?

15. Which actual villain (as opposed to alien race) from the original Star Trek series appeared in a movie played by the same actor?
16. The first series of Picard had the main character dealing with (among other things) unresolved feelings towards something that happened in which movie? You don’t have to elaborate, but if you do, use spoiler space.
17. Who was the first character (played by the same actor) from a DC movie to show up in the Arrowverse Crisis on Infinite Earths, and what movie were they from (and who played them)?
18. In the first season of South Park, when the show was more willing to use celebrity guests, one voice actress was credited as “The Chick from” what movie (and what’s her actual name)?
19. Which was the first movie to spin out of Da Ali G Show?

Re: TV Series Trivia

19 is Incorrect, though it's certainly the best known Ali G spin-off (a sequel is coming). The rest are Correct.

Here's the brilliant Tripping with the Bradys scene (jump to around 1:38 if you want to skip the preamble):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eV03KqoPC64

For 6, Lee Merriwether replaced Julie Newmar (Eartha Kitt hadn't appeared on the show at that point).

For 15, Khan, of course was played by Ricardo Montalban. Probably most people when they think of Khan default to the movie rather than the earlier TV episode.

Re: TV Series Trivia

Those are correct, except for 10, where you included the question but not the answer
5. I overlooked Gordon
17. That leaves the final part: Who played Knox?
19. Unlike Borat and Brüno, Ali G Indahouse was entirely fictional, no interacting with actual people. I hope someday there's an Ali G movie where Ali G interacts with people like in the show.

Re: TV Series Trivia

Remaining answers to my quiz:
1. Aside from Kenny Baker (R2D2), which other major Star Wars movie actor who appears in the Star Wars Holiday Special isn’t credited?
David Prowse (body of Darth Vader, though James Earl Jones, the voice *is* credited).

3. The episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 where Joel Robinson left (though he did later return briefly) riffed which movie?
Mitchell

7. Which actual Gong Show regular appeared in the Gong Show segment in Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (i.e. they weren’t played by another actor)?
The Unknown Comic (Murray Langston); he wears a paper bag over his head as part of his act, so no one was likely to notice he's decades older than when he was in the Gong Show.

8. In Auto Focus, when a Canadian cooking show (that existed in real life) appeared, who was the chef, and who played them? [and of course name the show itself]
Bruno Gerussi, host of Celebrity Cooks, was played by John Kapellos (while Kapellos has done good work elsewhere I don't think he quite captured Gerussi).
Here's a 1977 episode with David Letterman. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cV4fUSCj7Mc

12. After Captain America: The Winter Soldier came out, which organization from Agents of SHIELD was revealed to be part of Hydra? [not counting SHIELD itself being partly subverted by Hydra]
Centipede

18. In the first season of South Park, when the show was more willing to use celebrity guests, one voice actress was credited as “The Chick from” what movie (and what’s her actual name)?
Species; Natasha Henstridge

20. Which live action TV series (which actually aired in the UK not the US) was created to promote Troma movies?
Troma's Edge TV

Bonus (does not relate to a feature length movie per se):
21. Which lead actor from a movie serial showed up in a 1980s TV show featuring the same character (and what was the name of the show)?
Buster Crabbe from the Buck Rogers serial appeared in an episode of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century.

Re: TV Series Trivia

Hopefully the next quiz will provide a fun change of pace: Each question lists two shows. If I’ve prepared the questions right, one actor, and one actor only (in the gender neutral sense) will have appeared in at least a dozen episodes of both shows. Name the actor. In all cases, I’ve tried to list each each set of two shows in order of which they were in first, though in some cases the shows overlapped before the first show ended (if it has).

1. Agents of SHIELD/Preacher
2. Barney Miller/Firefly
3. Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Runaways
4. Desperate Housewives/Supergirl
5. Doctor Who/Jessica Jones
6. Dukes of Hazzard/Smallville
