Despite efforts by the Japanese military to stop him, Godzilla proved to be nearly invincible and could only be stopped by the use of the experimental "Oxygen Destroyer," which killed both him and his aquatic co-star, the Oxygen Destroyer's inventor, Dr. Serizawa.

Godzilla has since reappeared several times, often defending Earth from other giant monsters, such as Mothra, King Ghidorah, and Mechagodzilla. He has also been depicted as both a hero and a villain in various films, comics, and other media.
