History: Dave Lister was a technician aboard the mining ship Red Dwarf. He was put into stasis for 3 million years after smuggling his pregnant cat, Frankenstein, on board the ship. When he was finally revived, he discovered that he was the last human being alive, and the only company he had were the hologram of his dead bunkmate, Arnold J. Rimmer, a humanoid cat creature called Cat, and a service robot named Kryten.

Lister spent his days doing as little work as possible, drinking copious amounts of beer, and watching endless hours of television. However, he occasionally found himself caught up in adventures, such as being marooned on a deserted planet, encountering simulants and GELFs, and even traveling through time.

Lister also had an on-again, off-again romantic relationship with Kristine Kochanski, a former crew member who he had a crush on before the accident that left him as the last human being alive.

Despite his lazy and often uncouth nature, Lister proved time and time again that he had a good heart and was willing to help his friends when they needed him. He even faced the Inquisitor, a being who judged the worth of individuals throughout the universe and erased them from existence if they were deemed unworthy, and proved himself to be a valuable member of the Red Dwarf crew.

Weaknesses: Lister's laziness often gets him into trouble, and his love of beer and unhealthy food has led to various health issues. He also has a tendency to be naive and overly trusting.
