With this series of posts I plan to make notes on every entry in the original series. The format is not intended to be consistent with any published indices but it will be consistent more or less with any future such indices I do on the later Handbooks. I’m hoping this will provide info on the various entries that you can’t find anywhere else.
The format will be as follows:
Issue number and date
Cover Artist (if the same for multiple issues, only the first instance listed)
Writers (if the same for multiple issues, only the first instance listed)
Entry name (page count in parentheses)
Writer (only if can be determined for the specific entry)
Main Art Credits (and original source of the art; for this category and the next, artists with multiple names are listed as originally credited):
Secondary Art Credits, if applicable (and original source of the art):
Notes (if applicable)
Original series notes:
For Main Art Credits, Josef Rubenstein is the inker for most entries through #14, so usually only the penciller is listed by entry. For the original series, the series itself is usually the original art source
For Secondary Art Credits, I haven’t begun during that research. If before I reach #15, anyone provides the info, I’ll fold that in. Otherwise I’ll research that later.
The entire contents are reprinted in The Essential Official Handbo0ok of the Marvel Universe and The Official Handbo0ok of the Marvel Universe, the former in B&W
References to Roman numerals match those used in the entry,
For most individual characters, unless otherwise noted, the categories are Real name, Occupation, Identity, Legal status, Place of birth, Marital status, Known relatives, Group affiliation, Base of operations, First appearance, Origin, Height, Weight, Hair, Eyes. Remaining categories only if applicable: Unusual features, Powers, Weapons, Transportation
