OHOTMU Master Edition Index
With this series of posts I plan to make notes on every entry in Update ‘89. The format is not intended to be consistent with any published indices but it will be consistent more or less with any future such indices I do on the other Handbooks. I’m hoping this will provide info on the various entries that you can’t find anywhere else.
The format will be as follows:
Issue number and date
Cover Artist (if the same for multiple issues, only the first instance listed)
Writers (if the same for multiple issues, only the first instance listed)
Entry name (page count in parentheses)
Writer (only if can be determined for the specific entry)
Main Art Credits (and original source of the art; for this category and the next, artists with multiple names are listed as originally credited):
Secondary Art Credits, if applicable (and original source of the art):
Notes (if applicable)
Master Edition notes:
Indicia title is Official handbook of the Marvel Universe, Vol. 3, same as Update ’89.
Pages are intended to be detached and filed alphabetically in binders
Unless otherwise noted, profiles are each 2 pages. The first page shows the character from front, back, and side; artists are Keith Pollard (pencils), Josef Rubinstein (inks). The second page is for the text, though many entries also have secondary illos.
Unless otherwise noted, inside front cover has untitled text which is included in Essential Essential Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe Master Edition Vol. 1; no art
For most individual characters, unless otherwise noted, the categories are Real name, Other current aliases, Former aliases, Dual identity, Current occupation, Former occupation, Citizenship, Legal status, Place of birth, Marital status, Known relatives, Known confidants, Known allies, Major enemies, Usual base of operations, Former bases of operation, Current group membership, Former group membership, Extent of education, Height, Weight, Eyes, Hair, Other distinguishing features, Intelligence, Strength, Speed, Stamina, Durability, Agility, Reflexes, Fighting skills, Special skills and abilities, Superhuman physical powers, Superhuman mental powers, Special limitatioms, Source of superhuman powers, Costume specifications, Personal weaponry, Special weaponry, Other accessories, Transportation, Design and manufacture of paraphernalia, First appearance, Origin issues, Significant issues
As this is the final Handbook run for over a decade, this is generally considered to be the end of the first era of Handbooks
