Recast a movie - same actor, different role

Pick any movie and make it new by changing who is in it, not by picking different actors, but by having the actors play another of their roles.

For example:
Bram Stoker's Dracula, in which Sirius Black's attempts to date Lydia Deetz draws the ire of Hannibal Lecter and his gang: John Wick, the Great Intelligence, the Rocketeer and the Dread Pirate Roberts.

Challenge - identify the original movie when told the roles recast using the above rule:

After John Connor successfully catches and kills Superman, he is instructed by Dr Manhattan to hunt down Tonto, who is being aided by his best friend, John Connor.

Is research allowed?

Re: Recast a movie - same actor, different role

After John Dolittle escapes the clutches of Captain Nemo, he must deal with a betrayal by Wild Bill Hickok, but at least he can rely on Nelson Mandela and Wendy Darling.

Correct.

Christian Bale (John Connor in Terminator: Salvation, but here FBI man Melvin Purvis) kills Channing Tatum (Superman in Lego Batman, but here Pretty Boy Floyd), then is ordered by Billy Crudup (Dr Manhattan, but here J Edgar Hoover) to hunt down Johnny Depp (Tonto, but here John Dillinger), who is being aided by Jason Clarke (John Connor in Terminator Genesys, but here Dillinger's pal Red Hamilton).

Okay. A TV version:

Phileas Fogg leads a gang whose members include Sweeney Todd and the Transformer Bumblebee. Ian Fleming later replaces Fogg. Boba Fett occasionally helps the gang.

Re: Recast a movie - same actor, different role

Here’s a brief one.
Bruce Banner stumbles into a world of intrigue after encountering Achilles. How can Ophelia possibly choose between them?
