History: Gregg Hartmann was a television celebrity in the 1970s, famous for his children's puppet show. But he harbored a dark secret: he was a powerful telepath who could control the minds of others. In the 1980s, he became known as Puppetman, using his powers to manipulate people into doing his bidding.
Puppetman's reign of terror was brought to an end by a group of Wild Cards heroes, including the vigilante known as the Turtle. In the aftermath of the battle, Hartmann's mind was shattered and he was left in a catatonic state.
Despite his incapacitation, Puppetman's legacy lived on. His powers were revealed to be the result of an alien virus, and other victims of the virus began to develop similar telepathic abilities. Hartmann himself became a revered figure among the "Jokers," those infected by the virus who suffered from physical deformities.
Powers and Abilities: Puppetman possesses powerful telepathic abilities, allowing him to read minds, control thoughts and emotions, and even project his own thoughts into the minds of others. He can also create powerful illusions that can affect multiple people at once. His powers are strongest when he is physically touching his target, but he can also affect people at a distance.
Weaknesses: Puppetman's powers are limited by his own mental state. He has a fragile psyche and has been known to lose control of his powers when emotionally overwhelmed. He also has no physical combat skills and is vulnerable to attack when caught off guard.
