Gwen's death occurred when Spider-Man's web line caught her by the heel of her foot.  The sudden stop from her fall resulted in Gwen's neck breaking; euphemistically, it has also been referred to as "the shock of the fall."  Gwen never actually made impact with the water below.

Definitely true, though I must admit I wish it had gone down as ChatGPT described. The problem as depicted is that Spider-Man looks more like he thinks he's above the law if he doesn't turn himself in for involuntary manslaughter.
