So on the cover we've got the SHIELD Helicarrier, Stature, Spiral, Speed Demon, Sphinx, Shatterstar, Skein, Spider-Woman IV(?), Slaymaster, Stegron, and Speedball. Is the woman in red Sin? I'm assuming that the first flying guy is a Spaceknight, and I think the second one might be the second Starlord.

I took a quick look and it…wasn’t one of your best. Of course I’m probably just saying that because there were so many team bios when I would have preferred individual character bios for the members (was there really so little room that you couldn’t have covered the unprofiled members of, say, Six Pack? Most of them already have profiles already so it isn’t like there’d be that many to cover). The Slingers bio was particularly frustrating because of the poor attempt to reconcile contradictory stories in the case of the Hornet (even if he’d “carefully studied” his original armor, his disability and lack of resources would prevent him from being about to recreate a mechanical version of magical armor) and no such attempt was made at all with Prodigy (neither one should have powers anymore; only Ricochet and Dusk are supposed to have them).

Still, it was nice to see the Silhouette, Skein, the Snarks, Southpaw, Speed Demon, Speedball, Sphinx, the Spot (even if he had a similar problem Hornet except with death rather than power/equipment loss), Stacy X, Cassie Lang, Steel Spider, and Stegron.

My apologies if the entry was unclear. Prodigy and the Hornet did not give up their entire suits - Hornet gave up the Mephisto-granted gauntlets, and Prodigy gave up the Mephisto-added cloak which allowed him to glide. This was established in issue 12 of Slingers, and is not new information. Outside of those two items, they each still possess their armors and those attendant powers.

The gauntlets themselves were not magical, but mechanical - Eddie worked on them throughout the series, his most notable addition being the "Hornet's Sting" laser. His resources remained (at a minimum) the same ones he had during the series (university laboratories), and his disability was one palsied hand, something that many engineers in our world function with quite well. We could certainly have left it at "Eddie acquired a new pair of gauntlets" (and perhaps should have) but given that he suffered a somewhat throwaway death (and seems unlikely to return from it in the near future), giving him some role in reactivating his own career seemed both worthy of him and in keeping with his character and earlier behavior. That was the intent, in any case. If you (or a future writer) feel that he needed further help to recreate them, the entry certainly doesn't say he recreated them all by himself, just that he recreated them. For all we know, he did it with a wish from a magic genie!

I just read this issue, and again I enjoyed it!

A few corrections, comments and questions:

correction: Copycat is missing in the membership list in the Six Pack profile (unless Copycat's Six Pack membership in her own profile was an error).

question: Spiral's real name is Rita Wayword? Sounds cool, but is this new information, or was her full name ever mentioned in a comic?

question: in Karima Shapandar's profile Xavier's Excalibur is named as Xavier's Genoshan team; why the change? In Shola Inkosi's profile it was just named Excalibur. Okay, Xavier and his teammates didn't use the name officially in the Excalibur series, but as far as I know that isn't a condition.

comment: nice to see Squid-Boy, Olivier Stoker and Slaymaster were covered!
I only missed Shaman and Shard, but perhaps they will be covered in 2007.
