Maybe you should produce an Age of Apocalypse book to coincide with the release of the collected trades out next year.

We don't get a say on which "themes" are picked for the forthcoming Handbooks (or else Eric would make every book the X-Men :lol. Suggest it to Marvel.

Is there any chance for a trade of theese books?

Not aware of any such plans (like Marvel would tell us anyway!), but the standard reply for any such question is:

if enough people ask Marvel for it, you might get it. The writers have no say in such decisions. Marvel are a business; if they can be convinced it will sell well enough, then you have a good chance they will do it.

That goes for getting trades, new art, new writers ( :cuckoo: to even suggest such a thing, of course :Biggrin, a book which covers the Thunderbolts/Runaways/the Infinity Watch/X-Humed), books with text in day-glo pink, etc. Tell Marvel you want them.

:lol:Not quite! One would be X-Men, then there'd be X-Force, Excalibur, Exiles, Academy X, NYX, District X, and heck, throw in Alpha Flight too! ;)

In the X-Men Hand Book you guys have Emma Frost's Strength level at 5 (Superhuman:25-75 ton range). Please tell me this is an error. They did it in the 2003 encyclopedia (hardcover) also.

Also in the Avengers Hand Book You have Hank Pym's intelligence listed at 3 (learned) when he has always been a 6 (Super-Genius) Check Marvel Encyclopedia 1 (2003). You even say that he is a genius level intellect in this 2004 Hand Book.

Hey, other than that and the Wolverine Weight issue I thought you guys did a great job. I just went out and purchased your books today (OHOTMU 04 X-Men, Wolverine, and Avengers), So I am supporting you. I am looking forward to the Women of the Marvel U one too. So Just watching the Watchers!

im guessing they mean in he Diamond form, not human telepath form. i hope that helps.

Doesn't help at all because it is not mentioned in her super human powers and it blatantly says "Strength Level: Emma Frost possesses the normal human strength of a woman of her age, height, and build who engages in moderate regular exercises." I am pretty sure I have read every issue that has Emma in it since her secondary mutation and have never seen her have super strength.

well her natural state is flesh and she has the strength of a normal woman blah blah blah, but in diamond she is invulnerable, doesnt need food or oxygen, and when she fought storm in X-treme they were in the air and she turned diamond and body slammed storm, and in Astonishing she came thru the hole in the wall and knocked that guy out. i dunno just DEAL!!!! she will show superstrength one day. maybe suttin is gonna fall on scott and she jumps in and holds it up and goes "Oh, i didnt know i could do that."

All of those examples of Emma in Diamond form do not imply super strength at all.

No, it is a simple error. These power ratings are often screwed up. The Marvel Encyclopedia's are full of them. I am just trying to help these guys out, Eric even said he wanted constructive criticism at the beginning of this thread.

Well I wrote both the X-Men Encyclopedia and OHOTMU, but not the power grids for the Encylopedia. Marvel provided those, so if they deemed her to be in the superhuman strength range who am I to argue?

Glad to hear it, and thanks for the support! I'd recommend getting the other OHOTMUs as well (Spider-Man, Hulk, Daredevil, the Book of The Dead, and the upcoming Golden Age issue) so you get an even broader look at the depth of the Marvel Universe.

Also in the Avengers Hand Book You have Hank Pym's intelligence listed at 3 (learned) when he has always been a 6 (Super-Genius) Check Marvel Encyclopedia 1 (2003). You even say that he is a genius level intellect in this 2004 Hand Book.

As Eric notes, we don't actually do the power grids. In the early books we had zero input to them; nowadays, perhaps because of fans pointing out things like Hank's intelligence being listed so low, we are allowed to pipe up and suggest what we think they should be. Sometimes Marvel agrees with us, sometimes they don't.

Jango Fett wrote:

Thanks for your support. And please, keep watching. We aren't perfect, and we know mistakes will slip through (though sometimes what people think are mistakes are not). The way to ensure we don't repeat those mistakes is to (politely) point them out.

[Edit] - Additional to the above. When I say point them out, I mean, point them out to us. We are all relatively easy to contact, either through here, or more directly, or via Marvel. Pointing out what you (generic you, not specifically Archangel 2029) think is a mistake on a random message board where your friends can gather around and agree with you, nodding sagely to each other that the Handbook writers made a mistake, isn't bringing it to our attention and we might never see what is being said. Which means if it is a mistake, we will likely repeat it in future Handbooks, further aggravating the situation, and if it isn't a mistake, we don't get to explain ourselves. Either way, someone will be continuing to go around with erroneous information.

Yesterday I was in the comic store and the new Handbook was already sold out
However, I checked just the entries of the Handbook: Alternate Universes 2005 here, and I was wondering: shouldn't the Corps be called the Captain Britain Corps? IIRC that's what they were always called in the comics.
And Kitty's Fairy Tale universe: isn't that the same one as the Well at the Center of Time (in Nightcrawler's first LS)?

Their official name is The Corps, since not every member is named Captain Britain (unlike the Green Lantern Corps).

It involves the Well, yes. The entry covers the original story, the first Nightcrawler mini, as well as subsequent appearances by the Bamfs in Excalibur and Mean in X-Men Unlimited.

And I had loads of fun writing that one, as I love the original story and the first Nightcrawler mini!

No. The Corps were not called the Captain Britain Corps in any of their early appearances. Fans started calling them that, because they looked like Captain Britain, but it made as much sense to name the group after Hauptmann Englande, Captain Albion, Captain U.K., etc. - why name them after one specific member, no more important than any of the others? Brian Braddock was no more important than any other Corps member, during their early appearances. Calling them the Captain Britain Corps was a bit like calling them the Hal Jordan Lanterns. As late as their appearances during Captain Britain's trial, they were simply "the Corps". Iirc, the first time someone referred to them in the comics (as opposed to online) as the Captain Britain Corps was during their appearance in Fantastic Four - and since they were being introduced to the 616 FF by someone who knew 616 CB well, it made a level of sense that they'd attach that descriptor. The first time one of the actual Corps members used that longer title for their assemblage was in the Excalibur mini-series by Ben Raab - and while he made a good stab at CB's history, that contained a number of continuity gaffs. The same person who called the Corps "the Captain Britain Corps" also claimed Warpies were brought to Earth-616 from other realities - in spite of the fact that both she and the person she was talking to knew otherwise.

In the recent issues of Uncanny X-Men, the CBC name was used again by a member of the Corps. This time it makes sense that others in the group would attach CB's name to it, as he has been crowned ruler of Otherworld. However the weight of evidence lies with it being officially "the Corps".

Hmmm, I suppose this is where my questions about Apocalypse's bio belong. OK, well, after time to mull it over, there will be more added. Easier to break it into categories.

Discrepancies in the bio:

1. The vision of "Isis" wasn't really Isis. She didn't have the same speech pattern as the other gods, and IIRC, she and the others were imprisoned by Seth at this time.

2. Apocalypse didn't really use Tut's technology. He knocked Ozy's ass into the knowledge-transferer and that triggered the transformation, slavery just came after that.

3. Bio-armor...this will be addressed with the powers section.

4. Why did you leave out the part of the Dark Riders/Inhuman info about Apocalypse conquering the entire Inhuman race?

5. Body wearing out...again, in powers.

6. Why was no mention made of Apocalypse's battle with Prime Eternal Ikaris?

Discrepancies in superhuman powers:

1. What's up with this bio-armor stuff? Is this all based on X-Men 97 and 98? Before that, and in all previous Handbook entries, Apocalypse's "costume" was said to be his own body, shifted to look like that.

2. If the bio-armor allows Apocalypse to control his atoms, then how does he open holes in his body to let blasts through?

3. If it's just an armor, then why was his entire body falling apart during X-Cutioner's Song arc? He was dying in ways that no human could die, his body falling apart and liquifying, only to come back together again.

4. Also, how did he then seperate his head from his body in She Hulk 30?

5. He had the ability to grow during Rise of Apocalypse, this was not gained from any "suit".

6. Rise of Apocalypse also hinted at his ability to control his form in his battle with the giant asp.

7. What's with the "body transfering" stuff? This was started in Cable's future where Apocalypse had the powers of the 12 and such (which still doesn't make sense), why would he need to do it now? And why can't his atomic control simply counter the aging process, much like it does for Eternals?

8. He also showed shapeshifting when he found Ship. He looked almost nothing like he did in Rise of Apocalypse.

Discrepancy in abilities:
1. OK, not a real discrepency, but why did he get gipped on the amount of info on his specialties in the sciences? Magneto got at least twice the space for his knowledge and had a lower intelligence score.

Discrepancy in paraphernalia:
1. He doesn't really have much Celestial technology left. Most of his technology is of his own creation, based on Ship and his own physiology (as stated in X-Cutioner's Song). I mean, why would the Celestials have an Apocalypse sized hibernation unit?

Discrepancy in speed:
1. While I have no problem with the rating as a whole, you didn't include Apocalypse's ability to teleport. All other teleporters had that calculated into their speeds (like Dr. Strange). Apocalypse has shown the ability many times, without the aid of technology.

Discrepancy in durability:
1. Eh, I just thought he should be more durable than "superhuman." I mean, he did laugh off Black Bolt's whisper.

Discrepancy in energy projection:
1. Apocalypse should definately have above a 3 here. He has been shown to discharge: general laser/plasma blasts, an electrical energy (it traveled along Bobby's ice construct), light (in Rise of Apocalypse), and telepathic bolts (like when he took Xavier down in X-Men 97).

2. Apocalypse has shown the ability to absorb: Cyclops' eye beams, life force (same instance as the eye beams in X-Men 97), and kinetic energy (during X-Cutioner's Song).

Discrepancy in fighting skills:
1. He was trained extensively to fight for the first 17 years of his life. Eventually he went on to just walk to the Himilayas (when he found Ship) and was fighting hand-to-hand the entire way there (while throwing some energy projection in their as well).

Thanks

I didn't think Apocalypse's profile was the place to get bogged down in discussing whether it was or wasn't Isis, so "vision" seemed to suit just fine.

Gaara of the Sand wrote:

Technically that's using someone's technology ;)

Finite space within which to write the profile. IIRC I had mention of these in earlier drafts, but they were excised due to the profile being too lengthy.

Ah, the wonders of comic book science Seriously, though, off the top of my head, I don't have an answer for that one.

There's much about Apocalypse that's contradictory, not the least of which is how he keeps managing to return after seemingly being obliterated. My own personal theory is that it's not the same Apocalypse that keeps returning, but different versions of him from various points in time with different abilities, hence the "discrepancies" you've listed above. Note, though, that the above isn't the official stance.

Gaara of the Sand wrote:

I felt it more important to focus on his other abilities. Plus Magneto had a whole extra page of space with his profile.

His technology is still based on/modified from the original Celestial tech he found. I daresay he fashioned his hibernation units etc from that existing tech.

He's been seen teleporting, yes, but despite it not being spelled out that he was doing so by means of technology its still presumed he uses the tech gained from the Celestials to do so.

I would believe she was merely an associate, as she was following Masque, not Toad at the time. Masque and Toad just struck up an alliance is all.

Emma's stats are updated in the more recent Hardcover volume 4 to show her strength at 2 under normal conditions, and 4 when in her diamond form.

Hank Pym's intelligence has been correctly rated at a 6 in Hardcover volume 13.

Two entries from the Marvel Mystery Handbook didn't get in, as well, nor did the Swords, Tomes, and Talismans entries from the Mystic Arcana handbook. A few things were combined with other entries: Spider-Man's Costumes, obviously, from Spider-man 2004, was merged into Spidey's entry.

For the most part, though, yeah, it's just the Ultimate handbooks, and characters from Age of Apocalypse who haven't entered the greater MU.

I could see it taking 2 HBs or maybe 1 EXTRA large (double-sizer) HB!

And I want some new pics with good schematics, along with the older, iconic versions (like Valkyrie's Dragonfang as depicted in her entry story which shows the correct Dragon-headed hilt, but not the one in her hand in the main pose--that one is incorrect, Cyke's headgear, BW's Bites, etc)!

:cross: Dare to dream, dare to dream...

Amen brother. I could rattle off a list but since I have alot of it in my master wish list I'll spare everyone. But still, a Weapons, Hardware, and Equipment handbook would rock
