Re: General Comics Trivia

Most of those are correct (for 13 I overlooked Red She-Hulk and for 18 was mainly thinking Bird-Nose). However 11 is incorrect.

For 6, Jim Shooter says he ran the scene by gay friends of his and they were okay with it, even finding the "Ph, pith" part amusing. But others have felt otherwise. Which goes to show how subjective things can be.

7. Glenn Talbot

Re: General Comics Trivia

Both of those are correct. It was a good sequence for Talbot: He was gathering info, but he seemed sympathetic to what Rick was going through as well. It was a nice way to differentiate him from Ross.

At the time. He became more one dimensional later.

11. Stan Lee mistakingly called him Bob Banner a few times in the comics.

Re: General Comics Trivia

11 is correct. I think it might have only happened once (not sure) but regardless, unlike Peter Palmer, it became canon.

I would agree that Talbot sadly because more one dimensional later. Some people like to discount Lee's contributions in favour of the artists, but his treatment of Talbot shows how strong he could be as a writer at time.

3. Punched him in the gut to make him exhale his held breath?
9 Daredevil?
10 Shaper of Worlds
19 I was trying to recall if he'd actually married Jarella under the rites of her world, but I don't think so. Therefore, on the assumption that Betty was Wife#1, not#2, Caiera the Oldstrong.

Re: General Comics Trivia

3 is almost correct except that instead of a punch, the Hulk (being the more devious grey version) performed the Heimlich Maneuver, thus forcing air out and water in.  The rest are correct.

Those are all correct. In fact Golden Archer's real name was Wyatt McDonald. What McDonald's has to do with archery I admit to being unclear on.

4. Green Lambkin
8. the Great Society Comic Book
11. Ghost Patrol
14. Green Arrow
19. the Grim Ghost (the Gay Ghost, later renamed the Grim Ghost)
20. Trick question! Joe Simon created the Green Team, which is what I assume you were going for. Jack Kirby created the Dingbats of Danger Street.

12/18/2020 2:34 pm  #347

Re: General Comics Trivia

Those are correct. My mistake with 20. What threw me is that 1st Issue Special did showcase a number of Kirby concepts like the Dingbats, and Kirby with or without Simon created a lot of non-powered youth hero teams.

It should be noted that the "Gay" in Gay Ghost was probably a reference to his colourful garb. I haven't read enough of him to know how happy he normally was, but he was definitely intended to be heterosexual.

Re: General Comics Trivia

Correct. I don't want to merge trivia rounds (I find it easier to keep track of things if don't do a round on a day where I start a round or do a reminder) so will start a new round on Tuesday (Monday if everyone gets all the zombie questions right today)

Re: General Comics Trivia

Decided to start this today. Either the round will finish early enough to precede the end of the movie round, or people will have eight days instead of seven this time.

This week's topic is Green Lanterns from Earth

1. The original Green Lantern operated out of this city.
2. Who was the original Green Lantern's sidekick?.
3. Pre-Flashpoint who did the original Green Lantern marry?
4. Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) gave who the unfortunate nickname of Pieface?
5. Hal's girlfriend Carol sometimes becomes which villain (most often)?
6. For a time, Carol also became this villain.
7. Which Hal foe has a big head?
8. Who could have become Green Lantern instead of Hal had they been just a bit closer to where Abin Sur crashed (and later did)?
9. Which Guardian accompanied Hal and Green Arrow on the road?
10. Which fellow Green Lantern did John Stewart date?
11. John Stewart's biggest mistake as a Green Lantern happened in which mini-series?
12. Which former Green Lantern writer is currently in prison?
13. What code name did Guy Gardner take on when he ceased to be a Green Lantern for a time?
14. The second Green Lantern series was renamed what towards the end of its run?
15. Which multi-title crossover was the most tied to events in Green Lantern at the time?
16. Which superhero did Kyle Rayner date for a time?
17. What is the name of the trope based on the murder of Kyle's previous girlfriend (and who was the killer)?
18. Which mini-series post-Crisis revised Hal Jordan's origin?
19. Which Green Lantern came from Earth but was almost never active on Earth?
20. Which Green Lantern was one of the first characters to learn that Supergirl was mortally wounded during the Crisis?

Re: General Comics Trivia

Those are all correct. I've long thought that more could be done with the idea of Alan Scott and Batman operating out of the same city.

12. Gerald Jones?

12/28/2020 9:07 am  #359

Re: General Comics Trivia

12 is Correct (Gerard). Possession and distribution of child pornography, at least some of which was uploaded to a secret YouTube channel. While it's true that some youth can look older than they are, the youngest kid was 1. He's been sentenced to six years in prison followed by five year's supervised probation. He's also been fined an undisclosed amount. So my recommendation for anyone wanting to read any of his material is to obtain it on the secondary market so he doesn't get any royalities.
