This is a real street in London.
In 1888 Dr. James Xavier tracked Dr. Nathaniel Essex, who he correctly believed was behind the Whitechapel murders, to an upstairs flat on this street. He convinced a Metropolitan Police inspector (probably Frederick Abberline) to accompany him to the location, but all they found there was a bare room and a book that had belonged to Essex.
In reality one of the Jack the Ripper murders actually did take place near Mansell Street, in an alleyway: .
