Note: I’m currently going through the material in the Non-Marvel thread so this will expand as I go through these. Currently up to Mar 2, 2012 so feel fee to make corrections on posts up to that point but not after just yet.I'll add in first letter shortcuts later. From here on out if a resource is completely Marvel, place it here instead of the Non-Marvel thread. For mixed resources (e.g. Jeff Rovin’s Encyclopedia of Superheroes), you can list everything in the non-Marvel thread, but for the Marvel-specific material in such a mix, either list just the Marvel stuff here or make a note for me to check the non-Marvel thread for the mixture. Let me know if you have any questions.
This lists characters profiled in both authorized and unauthorized works on Marvel that aren’t actually published by Marvel. In some cases the entire work is Marvel related, other times just select characters. Characters are listed in the same way they are in the Master List if applicable, with cross-references given if different than the current official name. I won’t distinguish between Doctor/Dr and similar common abbreviations nor with/without The…
RPG characters are tackled in a separate thread (currently only the original game but that will be expanded).
For profiles based on real people, mythology, or other non-Marvel works of fiction, I’m only including them if the profile is on the whole about the Marvel version.
If I don’t have a particular resource I’ll make my best guess as to which version of a character/team is noted. The default is 616-Prime or non-specific.
The link to the document is here:
Material covered that I don't own a copy of myself:
The Avengers: The Ultimate Guide to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes (2012)
Comic Book Who’s Who
Hero Illustrated Special Edition v3 #1
Marvel Encyclopedia (2006)
Official Handbook of the Twisted Toyfare Universe
Wizard Presents Cerebro’s Guide to the X-Men
X-Men Survival Guide to the Mansion

Thank you. What I'll probably start doing as I go through the "non-Marvel" material is noting in the first post those resources I don't have my own copy of, as those are most likely to have errors because I can't check the profiles for alter egos etc.
Basically it was bugging me that we have a Non-Marvel thread full of obviously Marvel resources (albeit less official than the Handbooks) so I decided it was time to separate them out.

List updated to March 4, 2012: Encyclopedia of Superheroes. The top post lists material I don't have a copy of. In particular I'm interested if my guesses with the Wizard Cerebro book are correct (many x-characters share codenames so I may have guessed the wrong one; also there were a few spelling errors that I wasn't sure if they originated in the book or not so I noted them).

Thx. I've made most of those corrections and they will appear in the next upload. However, to be consistent with the Master List, I'm skipping Roman numerals and similar numbering with minor exceptions. This is especially important in this case when you consider that some reference works number versions between companies.

Yep. Numbering different versions is anathema unless the numbers are actually part of the character's name.

I decided to do ones where my mood struck me even if it didn't neatly fit past post chronology. So, now added are:
Encyclopedia of Super Villains
Adventure Heroes: Legendary Characters from Odysseus to James Bond
The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Cartoon Animals
The League of Regrettable Superheroes (Jon Morris)
The Legion of Regrettable Super Villains
The League of Regrettable Sidekicks

Newly added profiles from:
Comic Book Encyclopedia
Comics Gone Ape: The Missing Link to Primates in Comics
Marvel Studios Character Encyclopedia
The Superhero Book
The Supervillain Book
The Taylor History of Comics v4
The Vampire Book: The Encyclopedia of the Undead

Massive update done. I've added the 2009 and 2019 versions of the Marvel Encyclopedia (the two editions I own). I didn't want to type a whole bunch of fractions which would have added a lot of time to an already big task so I only noted page counts of 1 or more. As this added a lot of pages I've also now added the ability to jump to a particular letter.

From the Non-Marvel thread:
zuckyd1
Mar 23, 2012, 01:45 pm
THE MARVEL ENCYCLOPEDIA (DK)
entries from the original edition that didn't make it into the updated edition:
Caliban
Chandler
Doom 2099
Gemini
Hornet
Libra
Nathan Lubensky
Merlin
N’Garai
Thunderball
U-Man
Young Gods
Adding these to the Unofficial Marvel thread. Which profiles in the 2009 edition weren't in the first edition? And is Alastair Dougall the senior editor? Is the Chandler profile for Marlo Chandler? Are Gemini and Libra both the human versions going by what's listed under Real Name? Is Hornet Edward McDonough or Scott McDowell? I'm presuming not Peter Parker.

Yes, Alastair Dougall is senior editor.
Yes, Marlo

Thank you. I added in a few more questions to the earlier post.

A couple more questions: Since Merlin is noted as not being on the 2009 edition, but 2009 does have a profile on Merlyn, is this the Demonspawn version or another alternate? Also, are there profiles in 2006 that are renamed in 2009? Sorry to ask something that requires lots of checking, but want to make this as accurate as possible.

Gemini is Joshua Link
Libra is Gustav Brandt
Hornet is Eddie McDonough
2006 Merlin is the Arthurian character.
2006 Merlyn is the Otherworld character, who "may or may not be the sorcerer..."
I noted any major character renamings above. There are a few minor renamings that don't affect alphabetization, such as Apalla the Sun Queen (2006) vs. Apalla (2009). Do you want those as well?

Despite whatever non-official handbook-like products might claim, that boat has well and truly sailed long ago. Merlin is Merlyn. I'll understand for the sake of listing profiles here why the list needs to keep them separate, but they are the same entity.

Thank you and yes unless it's with or without The I'm noting name variants like you described, it's just that I won't include a cross-reference if the alt name would only be one or two lines up or down.

If it's the same character (or team, etc) I'm lumping them together ans using "as..." where applicable.

Also going through the Avengers Ultimate Guide. Who is the main writer or editor? Also, are the 1950s Avengers the 616/Prime version or the 9904 version?

Thank you. I'll take care of most of those tomorrow. For the Avengers book it's
THE AVENGERS: THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO EARTH’S MIGHTIEST HEROES! (DK, 2012)
Offline
Added in the Encyclopedia of Monsters, Marvel Encyclopedia 2006, The Avengers: The Ultimate Guide to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes 2012, Hero Illustrated Special Edition v3 #1. I only own the first one so I'll let others be my eyes for any errors in the rest.
I only got the Encyclopedia of Monsters a few days ago and no one else has listed it on the Mon-Marvel thread, so I'll add it there too. So for those of you who have been lying awake at night wondering when Chickenstein's Monster was finally going to get his due, it's finally his time to shine!

I think Encyclopedia of Monsters is the only one of Jeff Rovin's reference books that I don't have.
Avengers 2012 is Victoria Taylor, Project Editor.

Oops, forgot about your other Avengers question.
The writer of the 1950s entry seems unaware that there were two different groups from two separate realities. The entry is mostly about the 616 group. However it claims they called themselves "Avengers" (which I don't think the 616 group ever did), and one of the group shots is from Avengers Forever.

Thank you. In terms of the name of that group, I checked the Master List and the Avengers Now profile called them the Avengers Initiative (1959).

I think my original listing was a bit unclear. The book's table of contents lists "1950s" as a single 2-page entry, but it actually reads more like two 1-page entries. The first page is what I described above: Agents of Atlas (although they only use that name once, towards the end of the profile) with a few 9904 details incorrectly tossed in. Page 2 is the 1959 Avengers team.

Previously in the Non-Marvel thread I noted that the back boxes of of Cheerios in Canada had a profile for the MCU version of M'Baku. I am not aware of any other character being profiled. Here's the profile.
