Slight update from handbook writer Markus Ettlinger:
Still missing according to the letters page in X-Factor I#149, the final issue of the original X-Factor run.

Me: Obviously that doesn't mean his rescue wasn't confirmed anywhere else, but it seems less likely. No handbook entry mentions him at all as far as I can tell, bar of course Destiny's entry listing him as a relative.

Thanks. Those Fandom Wikis really are unreliable.

Is there an actual source for his rescue, like maybe a Handbook or small appearance entry I overlooked?

When did Don Blake go from "Human guy channeling the power of Thor" to "Literally Thor?" I know he started as the former but it just struck me that I have absolutely no idea when the switchover to the latter happened.

I feel like a lot of the anti-floating timeline people from CBR must've been at least familiar with that site, if not actually involved with it; I remember "realism" being a big talking point in such topics, which is something the site is a proponent of as well.

Another floating timeline question: in my younger, foolish days on CBR, I used to see people saying of the floating timeline, especially people who didn't like it and wanted real-time stories, say that it's been implied that Franklin Richards is causing it. Nobody ever cited a specific story for this; the most I was able to pick up was "probably something from the 90s."

Does this implication actually exist, or is it just blowing smoke?

Is there an "official" rate for Marvel's floating timeline relative to the real world? What I always used to hear was four real years equals one Marvel year, but I can't recall a primary source for that, hence why I'm bringing it to this topic.

First "who's a mutant and who isn't?" question in a while - Psiphon and Cool Million from Marvel Comics Presents. Called mutants by both the Appendix and the Wikia, can't find anything on where they got their powers in the comics themselves.

Imaginary Threads and Wish Lists » The Imaginary Cosmic Marvel Handbook! » 3/04/2023 6:21 pm

I'm not the only one who feels like there's been enough expansion to the Cosmic side of things in the past decade or so to warrant a Handbook for it, right? A rough outline of who would be in it would go something like so:

New characters
Anti-All and Lifebringer One
The Aspirants
The Beyonders (collective)
Black Winter
The Firmaments
The Griever
Gorr the God-Butcher
Life
The One Below All
The Progenitors

Old characters, never been kissed in decades
Numinus
Sise-Neg

Never been kissed, period
The Other
Uni-Lord
The One Above All (potentially controversial addition, but we know a LOT more about Him now)

And updates on more recurrent characters where appropriate, of course.

What say you all?

Got a response from our expert on this. So, with the usual caveats of "unless there's a recent story we've overlooked that changed this", we have:

It’s discussed under Satan, Mephisto, Hellstorm/Son of Satan, Satannish, etc. , but no name beyond “gestalt Satan”

Note that the quotes round gestalt Satan means that is a description/nickname for ease of discussing it in an entry, not an actual official name used or given in the stories. In other words, NO official name for this.

Thank you! If you're curious, I first heard the term from this fan-made hierarchy which I see is from from 2006, so it wouldn't be new information, so I guess it's just an error.

As I mentioned, I've seen this list and other, similar ones from the same site copy/pasted A LOT across the web, so let me know if you see anything else in here that fits this thread's topic, too!

There is some evidence to suggest that sometimes the Hell-Lords merge into a combined entity. That said, I'm not the team expert on this, so I'll double check with the rest of the handbookers to confirm.

Hello! Don't mean to be a nag, but it's been about a week and I was wondering if there's been any further word on the supposed "Legion/Prime Evil" entity? Thanks.

So I've been poking around some very old forums discussing Marvel's cosmic beings, and one entity I keep seeing mentioned is something called "Legion" or "Prime Evil," which is supposedly all the Hell-Lords fused together. Thing is, I can't find any other reference to it - there's several characters named "Legion," most notably David Haller, but none of them are a fusion of demons, and the only "Prime Evil" I can find is an (admittedly really-cool-looking) minor Marvel UK baddie. The very in-depth entry on demons from the Handbook doesn't mention it either?

A lot of these old lists of cosmic beings appear to have been quite literally copy/pasted around the net multiple times over on sites like Killermovies and Comicvine, so is it simply a much-repeated error, or is this actually a thing?

P.S. I feel like the cosmic beings could do with a new handbook of their own; Hickman, Slott, and especially Ewing have all vastly expanded the pantheon in the past decade. And there's still a handful of never-been-kisseds - isn't that right, Uni-Lord?

Is anything known about how Daniel Way's Venom run was supposed to end? It was canceled on a cliffhanger with the villains seemingly triumphant, and then promptly ignored apart from a few details like Venom's clone Mania.

Even the Handbooks just say something like the evil plan was "apparently unsuccessful."

Unfortunately the Handbook writers can't answer questions like these unless Marvel puts out an official announcement somewhere. I'm certainly hoping they've been working on a Handbook but unfortunately we have to wait and see until Marvel formally announces something as per their current marketing strategy.

Ah, of course, thank you. Fingers crossed!

Why are the two Martin Burns Marvel Boys considered separate characters? Reading about them was so odd to me as they not only have the same code name, but nearly identical real names and origins too; wouldn't it be easier to assume they're two alternate tellings of the same character?

I recall it being reported on some fan sites a few years back that Abby Brand was implied to be pregnant, the father presumably being Beast. Since this has never been followed up on, is this a whopper of a dropped plot thread or a fan misinterpretation from the beginning?

To anyone who worked on the Civil War Battle Damage Report:

First off, loved the "appendix" page with brief updates on ridiculously minor superhumans not seen in years to decades; you guys really do know everybody! One character in particular caught my obscure-mutant-fan eye: Obituary of O-Force, given the real name Milton Peterson. Did this name come from Milligan or just you? And in either case, are there real names for the other O-Force members on record somewhere?

Relatedly, coming up with bit character names seems like a blast; is there any "method" you use for it? I mean where do you get names like "Jonadab Megyscol?"

Time for a couple more about my favorite subject: obscure mutants! Does anyone here know anything more about this character or what direction he was supposed to be taken in?

According to the Deadpool Ranks and Fool Handbook, it's Noah Dubois from Landau, Luckman & Lake

Oh hey, thanks. Seems three writers have used him - Scott Lobdell, Joe Kelly, and Larry Hama. Interesting that the blog didn't recognize it was the same character; was that a later retcon to attempt to "patch" the dropped arc, or was it always intended, if anyone knows?

Second, Civil War Battle Damage Report, a treasure trove of as-obscure-as-it-gets characters, gives a real name to Obituary of O-Force (from X-Statix), but not any of the numerous others. Do names exist on record for them?

I know you guys probably get this question a lot, but can you refresh my memory on the name origins for Venom's "children," because they've gotten a lot more prominent recently? I know Scream was named in the comics, some were named by their action figures, and some had fan nicknames that got canonized apparently by accident, but I can't for the life of me recall which are which.

Thanks.

For a long time there's been theories that Franklin Richards is the cause of Marvel's floating timeline, using his powers to slow down time to keep his family and friends young and healthy for as long as possible. I've even seen claims some stories actually outright imply it. Is there any truth to this, or just fans asserting that their theories have more meat than they actually do, as often happens?

Rick Remender left quite a few plot threads unfinished when he suddenly left Marvel, like various Weapon Plus hooks, Apocalypse's predecessors as the Celestials' representative on Earth, and, most intriguing to me, the White Sky Foundation, manufacturer of made-to-order supervillains! Is there anyone here who has any idea what his planned resolutions for them were, or any way to contact someone who does?
